MadCap Coffee Company

Like an all-star team, this coffee combines distinctive parts to yield an extraordinary whole. Typically, coffee roasters do not participate in separating out coffee lots on the farm. But this is not your typical coffee. MADCAP Coffee Company evaluated nearly 1,000 lots from the Growers of Occicafe. They selected only the 30 best for this clean, multifaceted brew. Our first taste was a wave of cherry juice with a tartness reminiscent of a cherry jolly rancher. That round cherry acidity carries through a cup replete with flavors of almond, brown sugar and golden raisin, a syrupy body, and a sweet, lingering finish.

We feature truly small-batch, seasonal coffees. So there might not be any left. But that's a good thing! Only big corporate factories have the same stuff all year round.

Not only does great coffee improve your morning, it can improve the lives of producers. That’s certainly the case in Burundi, a small African country south of Rwanda where coffee is the main export. Over the past five years, the growing premium coffee market has revitalized the region, particularly in Kayanza, where the Gacokwe Cooperative works with more than 1,700 small producers. Our first-ever featured Burundian brew is expertly roasted by MadCap Coffee Company to bring out its bold flavors: striking lime and stone fruit acidity introduces distinct flavors of blackcurrant, a syrupy body, and a lime zest finish.

Colombian coffee crops have been devastated by unrelenting weather and punishing floods. Which makes this coffee, a Caturra varietal grown by Didier Reinoso on a small farm in the mountains of Las Mercedes, Herrera at an elevation of 1700-1850 meters--where he also grows avocados, plantains, yucas and herbs--all the more exceptional. The first thing that hits you is the beautiful fragrance of tropical fruit. The finish is tart--this is a “juicy” coffee defined. As it cools, it sweetens to bittersweet chocolate. Washed and dried on covered patios, it’s roasted by MadCap Coffee Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, who loves this coffee as much we do: They bought the entire lot to offer it exclusively. And we’re very happy to bring it to you.
